RECIPIENT

Jo Ann Smith was the operating partner and secretary/treasurer of Smith Brothers Farming and Ranching in Wachoota, Florida, from 1958 to 1988. Progressive Farmer magazine named her Man of the Year in American Agriculture in 1982 and 1988, and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services selected her as Woman of the Year in Agriculture in 1985. She served on President Reagan’s U.S. Advisory Committee for Trade Negotiations from 1985 to 1987 and was Assistant Secretary for Marketing and Inspection Services of the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1989 to 1993.
